Being in a 15 inches gaming laptop category, the ROG Strix Hero Edition has the design with a good quality of 15.6-inches display screen size, 0.94-inches of thickness, and weighing just about 2.6 kg or 5.73 pounds.

The mentioned device has a combination of brushed aluminum and plastic for its exterior frame design. This excellent quality of it makes it a standard fare in this price range. Additionally, it has an interesting dragon-scale pattern on the lid.

For a gaming powerhouse, there is nothing much we can expect from its dimensional features as in a 15-inches laptop category.

When compared to other gaming laptops like the Acer Predator Helios 300 on thickness, this laptop is slightly better.

Unfortunately, when it comes to ultraportable, this laptop is not much for carrying around. The 5.73 pounds of weight without the adapter is a little too heavy to put it in the ultraportable gaming laptop category, but it is still a portable computer.

Honestly, based on its dimensional characters and weight, it is still manageable for most people, even carrying it with or without the AC adapter. However, if you think the 2.6 kg is too much, a laptop like MSI GF63-8RC may help.

The keyboard of the Asus ROG Strix Hero Edition is a customizable RGB (Red, Green, Blue) backlit color model keyboard with four separate hotkeys.

Asus claims they’ve designed the keyboard that can stand firm the 20-million keystroke durability, and the keyboard also owns its numeric pad.

As for the trackpad, just like many other notebooks, it is good enough and tracks precisely. However, since this device is for gaming and maybe for creating 3D content, you’re unlikely to be using it much.

For the port options, it includes one USB 2.0 Type-A port, three USB 3.1 Type-A Gen 1 ports, mini Display Port, an HDMI 1.4 port for external display, and a USB 3.1 Type-C Gen 2 port (10 Gigabytes per second transfer data rate).

This laptop also installed with an RJ 45 LAN Jack for LAN insert, SD Card Reader, Headphone-out & Audio-in Combo Jack, charging port, built-in 802.11 ac 2×2 WiFi (faster than traditional 802.11 b, g, n), and Bluetooth 4.1.

With the Anti-Dust Cooling system, it is an exclusive design forces dust and debris to exit the chassis through the fan module’s two anti-dust tunnels.

Additionally, the two mighty 12 V offers more and higher fan speeds when compared to regular 5 V fans, in case if ROG Strix Hero gets heated up, it may reduce it, especially when you play a high-end game.

ROG (Republic of Gamer) Strix Hero Edition screen display is a Full HD with capacity 1980×1020 pixels max resolutions.

The 15.6 inches screen IPS-Type Panel on this device is also featured with a 120Hz 3ms refresh rate (delivering smoother playback).

The 120Hz refresh rate option is fast enough, deliver more frames, which can reduce lag and blur when gaming and watching high-quality videos. Plus, Full HD capacity gives you a beautiful, sharp, and bright image display.

Other gaming machines like the previous Acer Predator Helios 300 models and MSI GF63-8RC are only running at the 60Hz refresh rate.

A laptop running with the 60Hz screen is relatively average even if the laptops built for 3D content or gaming purpose.

With all those features, you must be wondering how long this laptop can last. Being in a gaming category, you can expect the battery life is okay.

Judging from its capacity, maybe it can hold around 4 hours in average usage by full battery charge. Also, bring along the AC adapter and don’t far away from the power outlet when gaming.

Fix with the 8th Generation Intel Core i7 (2.2 GHz power) processor, 6-Cores, and powerful boost up to 3.9 GHz is a high performance, and even better than it’s predecessors.

You can enjoy a massive leap in gaming and some productivity performance.

Plus, the 16 GB memory and 128 GB capacity of Solid-State Drive storage can let you experience the multitasking activities and store productivity programs, software, and games.

As for the graphics performance, this laptop performs sufficient enough. The installed graphics card is the Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti, and it helps the users to ensure there are no issues when running most of the latest games.

Nvidia GTX 1050 graphics performance is adequate for modern games today, but, the Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti engines can perform around 30% better than the mentioned GPU.

However, for 3D content creation like the 4k textures, it may perform okay but not great.

Overall, the Asus ROG Strix is excellent for gaming and consider good for its pricing. The Anti-Dust Cooling system and 120Hz 3ms screen refresh rate are unique compared to other laptops within this price bracket.

Plus, combined with its powerful CPU, GPU/graphics card, adequate Hybrid Drive capacity, and 16 GB memory for multitasking makes it attractive and good enough for competing in today’s gaming world.

The sound quality is also good. Unfortunately, because of some several reasons like battery life & weight, it’s still not an ultraportable gaming laptop, and there is some user also complains of its webcam quality.

Thanks for the great post. The price is definitely attractive. How would this unit compare to Alienware? Mine is about 4 years old now and I have been thinking about getting something new.

What a beautiful device. I think for what you get such as high-performance gaming capabilities and customizable keyboard, it’s a great price. I had a laptop with 8 gigs of RAM and it performed beautifully, so I know I wouldn’t be disappointed with the Asus ROG Strix. This would definitely be my go-to device for gaming because of its affordable price and great quality.

    Thanks for the review!
