Creating an account is a must before using the Windows operating system on your laptop. With this OS, there are two available options or types of a profile that the user can create, and it is the Administrative and Standard.
On Windows 7 and the previous versions, you can only create a local or offline Administrative profile.
Fortunately, starting from Windows 8 to the latest version of Windows 10, Microsoft allows you to create both Microsoft (online) and local (offline) account for your system.
Most of the users may be using the Microsoft account currently in their notebook. Compared to the local type, some benefits can be applied when using it, such as purchase apps from the Microsoft store.
The Necessity of Windows 10 Local Account
Many of us are only utilizes the Administrative user account for all activities on their pc. It’s not an issue at all (for some people) if there are no other than you using the laptop.
However, when using this type of account, the users agree to share their information with Microsoft.
So in some situations, you may need a local Windows 10 profile in which the Microsoft account is inessential.
For example, create a separate Standard local account for the other users, like for your household or relative. So you can prevent infections to your primary account from the suspicious downloads files.
Also, you may do this for a small business that does not require and have any of your Microsoft accounts.
Moreover, since the Microsoft profile keeps your personalize settings and preferences sync among your Windows 10 devices, you can share your device without letting them make any changes to your main account.
Create a Windows 10 Local User Account
Before you can create an offline user account on Windows 10, you need to log into the system using an Administrative account.
Some users may be doing this offline, and some are on the online state, and, you may find these two have slightly different steps.
So, follow these steps if your devices don’t connect to the internet (offline state):
Launch the Windows Settings by pressing the Windows key + I > Accounts > Select Family & other users. Click Add someone else to this PC.
Complete all the required fields (Name, Password, and Security Questions) and click Next.
Follow these steps to create a local user account when your devices are connecting to the internet:
Press Windows key + I > Accounts > Select Family & other users. Select Add someone else to this PC.
On the pop-up window, click I don’t have this person’s sign-in information. Then, click Add a user without a Microsoft account.
Fill all the required Name, Password, and Security Questions fields and select Next.
Tips: You can quickly create a local user account (without a password) if you leave the password and security questions empty.
Create a Windows 10 Local User Account Using Command Prompt
Using the Command Prompt (cmd) is a bit faster to create a local user account on Windows 10. You can create them by only typing a simple command using this tool.
To do this, follow these steps:
Press the Windows key or select the Start button and search cmd > Right Click the Command Prompt and select Run as administrator
Type this command then hit Enter:
net user "your name" "your password" /add
